Most people will be the driver during a car accident only three or four times in their lives. It’s estimated that you’ll only file a claim about every 18 years. Since it doesn’t happen that often, and it’s a high-stress situation, it’s important to think about what you need to do before an accident actually happens. Here are two car accident claim tips that will make your claim process painless.
1. Take Photos
After a car accident, check on yourself and everyone else involved and call the police. Once medical issues are addressed it is imperative that you take photos. Photos can help your insurance company understand what happened and who was at fault. Take pictures of the cars, traffic signs, injuries, witnesses, police and the scene as a whole.
2. Call the Insurance Company
Call your insurance company as soon as you can. If your car has been towed, let them know where it is and release the car to them if they request it. They’ll save you storage fees at tow yards and get your car to one of their approved repair shops.
It’s also important to let them know if there are injuries and give them information about the other vehicle’s insurance coverage.
Having photographic evidence from which your insurance company can work and coordinating with them at your earliest convenience will get your claim processed quickly and efficiently.
